September 2019 Newsletter

For those of you who ask, “Just what does the Board members actually do?”, we’d like to extend an open invitation to all ARSCCA members to come find out.  We’ve been a bit all over the place this year, but in order to make the date available to everyone, all future meetings will take place at 6PM on the first Wednesday of every month at Corkey’s in North Little Rock.  Dates are now being posted in the schedule on the website, so keep your eye out for that posting or any necessary changes.  The next board meeting will be Wednesday, October 2nd.  See you there!
Think you may be interested in holding a position on the board?  Well, we’re looking for people to volunteer.  Just exactly what would you be getting into if you do volunteer?  Just ask any of the current board members and we’ll be glad to let you know what would be expected for any of the board positions.  It’s a bit of work and a bit of fun.  It’s that little bit extra that has to be done in order for us to hold an event.  Go ahead and put your name in the hat for 2020.
How many of you have trolled the ARSCCA website lately?  Did you see the notification for Live AutoX results for the September 21st event?  Hmmm… What that all about?  In order to find out, you’ll need to come out to Event #9 and find out.  Jack Desert will explain it all during the drivers’ meeting.
Now here’s something that should get that engine revving…  there is now a notification for Governor’s Cup in the schedule on the website!!  Yep, that’s the one we usually had at Blytheville, but now it’s going to be even better! We have a one-day event approved by the Stuttgart Municipal Airport on October 26th!  Now this is only a one-day event and, from what I’ve been told, it’s a way for us to show what kind of turnout we could expect.  Your assignment if you choose to accept is to promote, promote, promote!  Let’s see how many people we can get to show up to let them know we’re serious about wanting the site.  This is our opportunity to get our foot in the door.
We’ve also been in contact with Newport airport, but don’t have anything definite from them.  Yeah, they’re interested, but…  They have some construction scheduled, but don’t know when.  Nick has talked to the Mayor and now needs to talk to the Chief of Police.  It’s not an easy process to get a new site to run on.  So, for those that thought nothing was happening, it has been.  We just haven’t had enough progress to report to get hopes up.
Now for regular event news.  Solo II Points Event # 9 and #10 will be at War Memorial in Little Rock on September 21st and 22nd.  Registration for both events is available online now.  You can get to that here:
Remember, signing up online saves you money.  Online registration is $30 per event for members and $50 for non-members.  If you wait and register on site, you’re going to pay $40 per event for members and $60 for non-members.  Now if you do the math, getting a membership and registering online is definitely worth the time to sign up.  Memberships are for one year from the date of issue, so you can go ahead and get yours now.  Here’s the link to Join or renew:  SCCA Membership
7:00 – 8:30 Course set-up
8:00 – 8:30 Registration
8:00 – 8:30 Tech Inspection
8:30 – 9:15 Course open for walking
9:15 – 9:25 Drivers Meeting
9:25 – 9:40 Workers to position and cars to grid

As always, we welcome anyone coming in early to help us get the course, truck, and site set up or hanging out afterwards to help get everything packed back in the truck.  For those that have been helping at the last few events, it has allowed everyone to get off site earlier and the shared workload is definitely appreciated.
Let’s not forget those RallyCrossers!
Event #5 will be October 5th at Jackson Farm in Clinton, AR.  I think that camping on site may be arranged, but you’ll have to check with Zach Shaddox.  If you plan on going, here’s your schedule:
9:30am - Registration opens
10:55am - Registration closes
11:00am - Drivers meeting
11:15am - Timed runs begin
And if you do plan to go play in the dirt, here’s a couple of things to remember… depending on the time of year, it can be hot and dusty, and there are bugs!  Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and lunch!  You can keep up with all the RallyX events and news here:  Rally Arkansas Facebook page.
ARSCCA site links for your convenience:
Have you ever sat and discussed the last event and there was that one guy that hit three cones.  Who?  Uh, you know… that guy!  Who was it?  For Pete’s sake, you’re coming up blank.  Who was that?  You can remember the face but can’t think of their name.  Have you been there?  Well, here is the fix:  ARSCCA drivers. Thank you Jack Desert for giving us a photo database of the drivers.  My favorite part is clicking on the driver’s name and finding those random quote gems!  Awesome.
So that’s it for the September newsletter.  We’ll see you next weekend for AutoCross at War Memorial, October 2nd at the Board Meeting, and October 5th for RallyCross in Clinton.  If you want to get ahead of the game, October AutoCross events #11 and #12 are already up for registration at Motorsportsreg.  Find the links in the website schedule.
