Featured Member:
In this edition, we shine the spotlight on Tony Carter, a dedicated member who has left his mark on autocross. Tony’s journey through SCCA Solo competition is a testament to his passion and skill behind the wheel.
He first made waves on the Solo stage in 1998, competing in CSP and finishing an impressive 17th in his class. Undeterred and hungry for more, he returned the following year, this time in EMod, where he secured a remarkable 5th place finish, earning himself a coveted trophy. Tony’s determination and competitive spirit were evident as he continued to push boundaries in his pursuit of excellence.
Fast forward to 2002, Tony once again demonstrated his prowess in EMod, finishing in 12th place and solidifying his reputation as a competitive performer on the national stage.
Beyond his achievements on the track, Mr. Carter embodies the sportsmanship that defines SCCA events. His willingness to share knowledge and support fellow competitors has made him a respected figure within our community. As we celebrate Tony’s achievements and contributions, we look forward to seeing him continue to inspire and excel in future SCCA events. Join us in wishing him continued success in his racing endeavors!

Tech Tips:
- Brake Pad Check: Ensure your brake pads have sufficient material left and are in good condition. Worn pads can compromise your braking performance and increase the risk of brake failure during high-speed maneuvers.
- Tighten Your Bolts: Before hitting the track, go over your car with a wrench to ensure that all critical bolts and nuts are tightened to their proper torque specifications. Loose components can lead to dangerous situations and reduced vehicle performance.
- Check Suspension Components: Inspect your car’s suspension system for any signs of wear or damage. Look for worn bushings, leaking shocks, or any loose connections. A well-maintained suspension ensures better handling and stability on the track.
- Check Tire Tread Depth and Alignment: Verify that your tires have sufficient tread depth and are evenly worn. Proper alignment ensures optimal tire contact with the ground, enhancing handling and prolonging tire life.
By staying on top of maintenance tasks and safety checks, you can enjoy a more reliable, and safe autocross experience.
Beat the Heat: Essential Tips for Staying Safe at Outdoor Events
High temperatures can pose significant risks during outdoor events. Here are some tips to help you stay safe and comfortable:
- Acclimate to the Heat: Spend time outdoors in the days leading up to the event to help your body adjust to the heat. Gradually increasing your exposure to high temperatures can improve your ability to cope with the heat during the event.
- Hydrate with High-Water Content Foods: Incorporate water-rich foods such as cucumbers, watermelon, and oranges into your diet. These foods not only help with hydration but also provide essential nutrients.
- Use Cooling Packs: Bring cooling packs or ice packs to apply to your neck, wrists, and other pulse points. These areas are effective in cooling your body temperature quickly.
- Wear Moisture-Wicking Fabrics: Choose clothing made from moisture-wicking materials. These fabrics draw sweat away from your body, helping to keep you cooler and more comfortable.
- Utilize Ventilated Clothing: Opt for clothing with built-in ventilation, such as mesh panels or moisture vents. These features enhance airflow and help regulate your body temperature.
- Use an Umbrella for Shade: Carry an umbrella to create your own portable shade. This is particularly useful if there aren’t many shaded areas available at the event.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, have fun!
