RallyX Guide
RallyX is a low-speed dirt/gravel autocross variant. It uses similar cone courses and timing, but the surface is dirt and a few of the scoring rules differ from pavement autocross.
Scoring
All runs count. Your event score is the sum of all run times plus any penalties — there is no drop run.
Penalties
Toppled or misplaced cone: +2 seconds per cone.
Missed gate: +10 seconds for each missed gate (driving on the wrong side of a gate cone without moving it). Note: this is different from autocross, where the same offense is a DNF.
Did Not Finish (DNF): 300 seconds. Typically issued when a car fails to cross the finish line, usually due to a mechanical problem.
Mechanical reruns: If a vehicle debeads a tire or has another mechanical problem mid-run, the driver may be given one rerun, provided repairs are completed within 10 minutes.
Tech Inspection
Tech follows the same general guidelines as autocross. The car must be mechanically sound and free of loose items. See the FAQ for the standard checklist.
Timing Setup
RallyX uses two pairs of timing lights — one at the start, one at the finish. The finish-line receiver is wired to the timing computer; the scoreboard is connected to the antenna at the start.
Event Operations
The event chair runs the event using a checklist, but does not personally execute every task. Help from club members is expected — when you're not driving, expect to be staffing a corner, running timing, or helping with course setup and teardown.
What to Bring
- Mud-tolerant clothes and shoes
- A change of clothes for the drive home
- Tow strap (you'll probably need one — your own or someone else's)
- All the normal autocross gear (helmet, tire gauge, water, food)
